Last Summer I had the absolute pleasure of photographing one of the most unforgettable Banff elopements I have ever helped plan & photographed. A wonderful couple from California reached out to me looking for a truly adventurous wedding experience. They told me they wanted to elope on Mount Temple, one of Banff National Park’s most iconic peaks standing tall over 11,000'. They also dreamed of having their wedding photos taken at the famous Moraine Lake. As a Banff wedding photographer and licensed ACMG hiking guide, I knew right away this was going to be an incredible day — and it didn’t disappoint!

We started early in the morning, hiking up the steep trails toward Mount Temple. The weather looked promising at first, but as we climbed higher, dark clouds began rolling in. We made it almost to the summit — just a short push away — when we spotted a fast-approaching thunderstorm. Safety always comes first in the mountains, so we found a beautiful rocky overlook near the top where we could start the ceremony.

With the wild, rugged beauty of Banff all around us and the thrill of the storm in the air, they exchanged their vows. It was raw, emotional, and so full of life — everything an adventurous mountain elopement should be.

After the ceremony, we worked our way down and took some stunning wedding photos at Eiffel Lake and along the trail to Sentinel Pass. The clouds, dramatic lighting, and sweeping mountain views made for the kind of Banff elopement photography that feels almost too beautiful to be real. Every shot captured the spirit of adventure these two brought to their day. They laughed, they embraced the wildness of the mountains, and we made memories (and photographs) that I know they’ll cherish forever.

Once we made it back down, we headed over to Moraine Lake for sunset wedding photos. Moraine Lake weddings are always magical, but that evening was something special. The storm had cleared, the lake was calm, and those famous turquoise waters were glowing against the Valley of the Ten Peaks. As the sun dipped lower, we captured the most romantic Moraine Lake wedding portraits, full of golden light and that feeling of pure joy after an epic day in the Rockies.
